While I Was Gone

It's March! You haven't heard from me in March, have you? I looked through my phone to see what in the world we've been up to for the past couple of weeks and, aside from last week when Jambo and I were sick, this is what I came up with:
We went to see The Lego Batman Movie and jazzed up our usual pre-movie selfie with a fun filter.
The Swede took Jamie ice-fishing and he was a total pro, on top of which he acutally liked it.
Erin and I proved how *NSync we are when she texted me about a nail polish color she wanted to buy when we went out shopping later that day and I texted her back a picture of me wearing that exact color at that very moment.
Jamie and I started building a fort but didn't get far.
I drove through our old 'hood late at night and rolled down the window to take a shot of the beautiful church that used to be our neighbor. My kind of drive-by: photographing churches without interrupting traffic.
I discovered the most magical ice cream flavor during one of my frequent window-shopping sessions at the grocery store freezer. I took the picture to remember for the next time I throw caution to the wind and eat what I want.

So those are the small things. Here are the big: work is busy, spring is on the way, I'm in love with my husband, my kid is awesome, life is good.

Laying Low

It's another winter weekend with nothing planned except play, chores, ice-fishing, and building with marshmallows.

Celebrating The Segerstens

These winter months are ones that are filled with birthdays in our extended family. Within a four week period, we celebrate Papa Swede, Julia, Sarianne, and Elin, but since nobody was having a milestone birthday (unlike last year) the celebrations have been low-key cozy. Like this past Saturday, when we drove down to Söderköping and home in the same day to give Julia and Sarianne their presents, meet their new bunny, and enjoy an enormous spread of cookies, cupcakes, and brownies with good company. I think the person who felt most honored, however, was Elin, who turns fifteen in three weeks and will then be legal to drive the moped that Gurra bought and restored for her. This may seem like an outlandishly generous gift for a family friend, but remember, gifting vehicles is kind of Gurra's thing

Mid-Winter Signs of Hope

It's tulip season and these beauties are making me very happy every time I see them. Combine that with the fact that it's now still light at three in the afternoon and I am a happy, hopeful lady.

Marcus & Martinus

You guys, check out these adorable Norwegian twins! Jamie came home singing this song a few weeks ago and now neither of us can get it out of our heads. And don't worry, we don't really understand much of what they're saying either, but that's decidedly nonessential to the enjoyment of the song.

Staycation

Hey, dudes! Sorry I haven't been great about posting pictures this week. It's because I haven't been great about taking pictures. Annemor and Matt are in Sri Lanka and the Segerstens are in the Dominican Republic and have been sending beach and palm pictures regularly, and I haven't even been able to respond to them because what I am I going to send? I picture of me re-watching every episode of Girls? The Swede fishing? Jamie jumping on the bed? The bottom line is, we haven't been doing much exciting, but have enjoyed our Christmas break nonetheless. Back to work and school tomorrow!

Top Reasons Not To Go Sledding

… according to Jamie, after I pushed the apparently horrible idea so hard that he was crying actual tears:

1.  Said tears would freeze into ice cubes on his face.
2. We might go so fast down the hill that his loose tooth would fall out.

The Place To Be

Jambo and I are on break this week since his school is closed, and while The Swede is technically on the job, he's been working so much overtime that he was able to take the afternoon off. He decided to take us to the museum of natural history, a first for Jamie and me and the first time he'd been in about thirty years. It was an awesome idea, but not a unique one as the place was PACKED with preschool-aged kids and their parents. I daresay, all the coolest parents take their kids to the museum of natural history.
